The City of La Porte is a community dedicated to outdoor recreation while fostering a vibrant downtown for businesses and remote workers. La Porte is the walkable city of the future. La Porte’s master plan includes connecting Downtown, Newporte Landing, and all neighborhoods to a beautiful trail system that traverses lakes and parks. The vision for La Porte’s healthy recreation initiatives, innovative business development, and year-round, bucket-list events continue to grow for the benefit of our growing community and visitors.

Lake Life

We are attracted by the tranquility and adventure of lakeside living and healthy, outdoor recreation. The City of La Porte boasts an abundance of healthy, outdoor lake experiences including boating, fishing, waterskiing, kayaking, and paddleboarding on Pine Lake, Stone Lake, and Clear Lake. An active, outdoor lifestyle is enjoyed by families of young children, teens, couples, and singles.


La Porte is innovative in its approach to business development. The City of La Porte employs Urban Enterprise Zones and economic incentives for mixed-use development, business innovation funding, and building facade upgrades. Our vision is to encourage small and large-scale economic development. We are flexible and ready for big ideas or great execution from local businesses and today's enterprise. Today, approximately 100 companies either manufacture or distribute products from the La Porte area.

Farmers & Artisans

Farms, Food, and Art Culture is part of everyday life and tourism in La Porte. La Porte’s local Farms, Orchards, Farmer’s Market, and the Jackson Street Community Garden aim to bring authentic farm-fresh produce to La Porte restaurants, as well as, strengthen the local food movement in our community. The La Porte Art Scene is alive in Historic Downtown La Porte with the local-artisan commissioned "The History of La Porte" mural, The Little Theater Club and a growing list of Artisan galleries. La Porte's goal is to foster a vibrant community of regional artists who create art, music, and culture within our city. Farmers, Artisans, and traditions like apple picking, Saturday mornings downtown, The La Porte City Band, and Arts in the Park are bringing our community together.

Active Community

La Porte is actively empowering its residents to live healthy by creating destinations and a hike and bike trail where we can walk to EVERYTHING! La Porte's goal is to become one of Indiana's top 10 healthiest communities by 2030. Try our Beach Yoga or Urban Paddle and Peddle! The City of La Porte also is home to a growing list of can’t miss annual events for our active community and visitors alike. The Tour de La Porte Half Marathon, the Annual Sunflower Fair, the Annual 4th of July Celebration, Parade and Fireworks, Red, Wine & Brew, The Annual Car Show, The La Porte City Band, Arts in the Park, La Porte County Fair, Winterfest Derby, Downtown for the Holidays, concerts at La Porte’s 3000+ seat Civic Auditorium and of course, Slicer Hometeam Sports!


Since 1832 La Porte’s downtown has charmed residents, visitors, and people doing business. The 30+ buildings in La Porte’s historic district is in the middle of a great revitalization. The vision is a walkable city of visitors and multi-generational residents living and working downtown or walking from their neighborhood via a vast trail system. La Porte’s downtown Victorian history, shops, and restaurants are home to residents, a daily destination for locals, and a weekend destination for tourists and outdoor recreation enthusiasts.


La Porte is a gateway that is literally accessible by transportation and to higher education. La Porte’s Municipal Airport is 3 miles south of downtown and has been operating since the 1920s. For Regional, National, or International travel South Bend International and Chicago O’Hare are just 30 and 90 minutes away. The South Shore Train Station is just 19 minutes away from La Porte making Chicago commuting distance. Dual Rail and highways are accessible to our Thomas Rose Business District. Award-winning higher education is accessible to the City of La Porte. Purdue University Northwest's College of Technology was recently awarded the coveted National Cybersecurity Designation for their BS in Computer Information Technology degrees.
